Winning last year’s Step Up or Step Out competition was only the beginning for Tembisa Revolution, who shared a stage with Kanye West and featured in Chomee’s music video.

The dance group of eight, consisting of Sandile Magagula, Moses Moeng, Thapelo Mabena, Bongani Tshabalala, Mzwandile Mzima, Njabulo Masina, Abel Vilakazi and Senzo Msomi, is excited about their future.Moses Moeng chats about the group’s plans and what they’ve been up to since their win.

What’s been happening since Step up or Step Out?
Our group’s been afforded much needed publicity; winning helped us make a name for our group in other parts of the country. This gave us a platform to share the stage with well-known acts and land national more gigs.

We’ve been working alongside HHP and Arthur Mafokate. We recently had the privilege of sharing the stage with Kanye West when he was performing in the country and we also featured in Chomee’s music video.

Are you entering other competitions?
Yes, we entered the Nampak Can Do competition and scooped first prize.  On the 21st of March we’ll be representing Ekurhuleni at the Gauteng Dance Manyano.

Where to from here?
We are looking at going international; we are looking for an agent that will help us take our Kasi Tap dance style beyond SA.

Advice to upcoming dancers…
Dance with passion, love what you do and respect your work because dance can be a career if approached properly.
